PG COUNCELLING

PG Counseling – Detailed Description

Postgraduate (PG) counseling is a crucial process for medical graduates who wish to pursue postgraduate degrees such as MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB courses in India. The counseling is based on the NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate) scores and is conducted to allocate seats in various government, private, and deemed medical colleges across the country.

1. All India Quota (AIQ) PG Counseling:

Conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC), AIQ PG counseling is held for 50% of the total PG seats in government medical colleges across India. It also includes:

  • 100% seats in Deemed Universities
  • Central Universities (e.g., AMU, BHU, DU)
  • AFMS institutions (with separate processes)

2. State Quota PG Counseling:

Each state conducts its own PG counseling for the remaining 50% seats in government colleges and 100% of private colleges. Eligibility for state quota seats often depends on domicile status or state-specific criteria.

Steps Involved in PG Counseling:

  1. Online Registration: Candidates must register with the respective counseling authority (MCC or State) and pay the registration fee.
  2. Choice Filling: Applicants can select preferred colleges and specialties based on their NEET-PG rank.
  3. Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted through a merit-based and reservation-based process.
  4. Result Declaration: The allotment results are published online, and selected candidates can proceed with admission.
  5. Reporting to the Institute: Candidates must report to the allotted institute with original documents for verification and admission.
  6. Further Rounds: Multiple rounds including Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up, and Stray Vacancy rounds are conducted to fill vacant seats.

Documents Required:

  • NEET-PG Admit Card and Scorecard
  • MBBS Degree and Internship Completion Certificate
  • Provisional/Permanent Medical Registration Certificate
  • Class 10 and 12 Mark Sheets (for verification)
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)

Why PG Counseling Is Important:

PG counseling ensures a transparent, merit-based, and organized admission process for postgraduate medical education in India. It allows candidates to make informed decisions about their specialization and institution, shaping their medical careers with clarity and confidence.
